On August 6th the Suwannee ADT visited the County Extension
office for an educational day. Cathy Rogers, Extension Agent explained
the of daily water intake. The classroom talked about what product shave
good water and when it is important to drink water. A great
hands-on project was included as the clients made their own water beads. A
bead is moved from top to bottom each time a serving of water is drank.
This project is a great visual reminder to drink plenty of water in a
day.
Part of CCS mission goal is to provide the necessary training to
function as independently as possible and each client is provided
opportunities to participate fully in the community. The Suwannee IFAS
extension agents did a great job providing education towards
independence.

JACOB’S LADDER ~ Therapeutic Riding Center |
|

CCS visited Leslie Jacob and her equine buddies at Jacob’s Ladder Therapeutic Riding Center in Hahira, GA. The center is certified with NARHA, instructors who teach at NARHA Centers are required to achieve multi levels of Instructor Certification status. NARHA centers advocate for equine assisted activities and therapies and the equines in this work that inspire and enrich the human spirit.
Many of the clients choose to ride and groom the well mannered horses. With the help of CCS staff and Jacob’s Ladders volunteers the day turned into a memorable event. Board Member, Cliff Adams is hoping to find away to make this adventure happen more frequently for those individuals who show interest in equine therapeutic activities.
Horseback riding for the disabled is recognized as one of the more progressive forms of therapy. The ability to control a horse as well as one's own body inspires self-confidence, responsibility and teamwork. Best of all, it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which creates a special relationship between rider and horse and promotes personal challenges.
Four areas are considered during this therapeutic session.
