The Bobby Sox twins, Farrah Clark (in her Poodle Skirt) and her mom, Jeannette, show off their 50’s attire. The theme of the 28th Annual CCS Awards Banquet held on June 11th was "Fabulous Fifties” and boy was it FABULOUS!   White t-shirts, bobby sox, poodle skirts, capri’s and even penny loafers were dress for the night  at this year’s presentation party held at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park.

The evening began with an invocation offered by Reverend Leroy Dobbs of Philadelphia Baptist Church and followed with a fantastic meal served by energetic volunteers from Altrusa International and First Federal Bank of Florida.

The party began when the CCS Rockers, decked out in white t-shirts, accompanied by Fabulous Mr. G. (Dick Grillo) rocked the house with their medley of fifties music including the songs “Bye Bye Love”, “Johnny Be Good”, “Yackety Yak” and “Rock Around the Clock”.  Several clients sang solos while others joined in for the chorus and danced to the music.  All of the performers had a fabulous time entertaining the awe struck audience.

Gear Up Florida Team Visits Live Oak!

09 Push AmericaIf you noticed the young men on sleek European style bicycles traveling through Live Oak recently, you may wonder why they were here. Since 1997, almost 300 undergraduates and alumni of the national college fraternity Pi Kappa Phi have participated in Gear Up Florida.  Gear Up Florida was created with one mission in mind- to reach out to as many people as possible across the State of Florida, spreading a message of acceptance and understanding on behalf of people with disabilities.

altThis year’s 800-mile statewide cycling event kicked off with riders leaving from the shores of Miami.  Their cycling journey took them through the Florida orange fields, reached the Gulf coast, passed through Orlando, zigzagged back to the Atlantic coast followed by a stop- over in Live Oak and finally culminated at the State Capitol in Tallahassee. This year, the 31 riders raised over $92,000 to benefit people with disabilities.

Since we started in 1981, our organization has provided advocacy and quality services to people in the Suwannee, Hamilton, Lafayette and Baker county areas.  While we receive some reimbursement from state and federal programs for the services we provide, we must rely upon member support to help us carry out our mission.
